The Majorcan tennis player is the first big star to confirm his appearance at the 2018 event, in what will be his 14th appearance. "The fans are going to enjoy a super tournament next year," Albert Costa said. The event will be held from April 21 to 29 at the Real Club Tenis Barcelona. Tickets are already on sale on the official website.

Nadal has been world number 1 since August. It´s the fourth time leading the world rankings. He is normally the first player to confirm his participation, guaranteeing the event’s quality and further enhancing its illustrious history. In his 13 performances Nadal has won 10 titles with a record of 54 games won and only 3 defeats.

"The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell is a very important tournament in my calendar and whenever I could I played it since I started to be professional" the player from Manacor said. Last year was special for me winning my tenth title in the Real Club Tenis Barcelona, my tennis club, the tennis club par excellence in Spain. Playing at home is special to me and it is not only an important tournament in my calendar but also in the world tennis calendar, being one of the reference tournaments of clay in the world. I am very happy to return and I hope to see you all at the tournament. "

Nadal will face the best tennis players of the moment on clay in this most prominent competition. In 2017, in addition to the Manacor champion, four other top-10s participated in the tournament, among them the number 1 in the world at that time, Scotland's Andy Murray.

The director of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, Albert Costa, does not hide the satisfaction that comes with the Nadal’s prompt confirmation: "It's great news. And this year comes with the addition that Rafa is now number 1 in the world, which will surely generate more excitement. If attending a Nadal match is already exciting and only happens one week a year in Barcelona, this time with his new status in the world ranking it will be better for nobody to miss it ".

Costa is convinced that again in 2018, and with Nadal at the head, the fans "will enjoy a super tournament in Barcelona, where the center court also bears the name of Rafa". The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell belongs to the ATP 500 category, made up of 13 tournaments that take place on four continents.
