BIO: From the first day I picked up a racket — age 6 in 1990 — tennis for me evolved into a pursuit much grander than the sport itself, far more reaching than technique and tournament brackets. It’s my cherished family on and off the court. I grew up in Northwest Denver, lacing the sneakers at Berkeley Park and Sloan’s Lake, my father tirelessly feeding me balls across the net after a long day’s work. As a freshman at Wheat Ridge High School, I played No. 2 doubles, and took over the same slot in singles a year later. Seared forever into my memory, on a hot September afternoon, my teammates and I halted the country’s longest dual-match winning streak at 316, taking down mighty Cherry Creek with 5 wins over 2. I captained the Purple and Gold my next two seasons at North High, which instilled confidence upon graduation to take a run at the Pro Tour—a 10-year journey competing against many of the best players in the world. I trained and coached at Advantage Tennis Academy in California for a couple of years before returning to Colorado in 2010 to be with my ailing grandmother. My extensive touring and teaching knowledge found a supportive audience at Gates Tennis Center and the JCC, but in 2014 I found a home at the Denver Tennis Club, where I plan to serve as Head Pro for years to come. You’ll see my wife, Christine, in regular DTC action, as well as my son, Rylan, soon to have a racket in hand asking Daddy to hit him a few … the apple oh-so-close to the tree.
