The Pioneer: McDaniel breaks tennis' color barrier—for a day—vs. Budge

"The color line was erased, at least temporarily, for the first time in the history of major American tennis yesterday," The Brooklyn Daily Eagle announced on July 30, 1940.


Eighty years ago in Harlem, Jimmie McDaniel and Don Budge played in front of 2,000 people.
