TBT: The Open era begins at Bournemouth's West Hants Lawn Tennis Club

On April 22, 1968, at 1:43 p.m., tennis’ Open Era began.

And with 23,000 spectators attending, the most in 20 years, the Bournemouth tournament earned a record-breaking profit.


While the men’s field ran quite deep, most of the top women were not entered in 1968.
