Player boycott or not, Jan Kodes' 1973 Wimbledon triumph was for real

In 1973, the ATP Tour boycotted on behalf of Nikki Pilic, a Yugoslavian player who was suspended by his federation. While many top players chose not to play Wimbledon that year, Jan Kodes recollects winning the title as a major triumph.


No less than 13 of the original 16 seeds chose to skip the event on behalf of Nikki Pilic.
