On This Day: Centre Court bombed during WWII | Tennis.com

Over the course of World War II, more than 1,000 bombs fell on Wimbledon.

Though Centre Court was back in order by 1947, not until 1949 was all the damage to the club fully repaired.


The stadium previously played host to a Davis Cup tie between the United States and Nazi Germany.
