Acapulco (EFE)  -  Rafael Nadal trained this afternoon with Alexander Zverev, prior to the draw of the Mexican Open of Acapulco in which he will seek to recover the World number one.

On the central court Nadal took advantage of sunlight at about 28 degrees Celsius to ball for one hour against the German, seventh in the standings, his main opponent next week in the tournament that will take place on the hard court.

Dressed in a gray sleeveless t-shirt, black shorts and pink sneakers, the left-hander from Manacor was in good spirits, for moments attentive to the indications of his coach, Carlos Moyá.

Nadal, winner of 19 Grand Slams tournaments, arrived at the Mexican Pacific resort on Thursday and this Friday will be raffled off as a number one player in a contest in which in addition to Zverev, he will have Stan Wawrinka, sixteenth of the ranking, as the main pitfalls of the Swiss American John Isner (19) to Australian Nick Kyrgios (21) and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (22).

The Mexican Tennis Open, tournament 500 of the ATP, is one of the favorite competitions of Nadal in which he played for the first time in 2005 when he won the title by beating the Spanish Alberto Montañés and reappeared in 2013 and repeated the scepter by beating in the final to his compatriot David Ferrer.

Nadal is in Acapulco with the purpose of winning the title after three failed attempts; In 2017 he lost the final to the American Sam Querrey, in 2018 he left due to injury and last year he lost with Kyrgios.

This Saturday afternoon will take place the draw at a luxury hotel in the city.
