Kyrgios Blasts Past Krajinovic, Faces Tsitsipas Next

A pumped-up Nick Kyrgios produced a serving masterclass Thursday to dispatch Filip Krajinovic 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 and reach the Wimbledon third round for the sixth time.

In one of his best performances of the season, the Australian fired 24 aces and won 93 per cent (37/40) of his first-serve points as he blasted the Serbian off the court in 85 minutes.

The World No. 40, who reached the quarter-finals on debut at The Championships in 2014, will next play fourth-seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

"I want to remind people that I'm pretty good," Kyrgios deadpanned in his on-court interview to the delight of fans. "This is the tournament I circle on my calendar, which I look forward to all year. It's the Grand Slam where I have the best opportunity."

Kyrgios clawed past British wild card Paul Jubb in five sets in the first round. However, in front of a packed crowd on Court 2, the going was much easier against Krajinovic, who had never won a match at Wimbledon before this year.

Kyrgios quickly set the tempo early as he held to love before breaking immediately. Fuelled by momentum, the 27-year-old never gave the Serbian a sniff throughout the match, not facing a break point to improve to 2-0 in their ATP Head2Head series.

“Getting over the line in that first round was massive,” Kyrgios said. “I have been playing some really good tennis in the past month, so I was really surprised with the way I played the other day. It wasn’t great. But there were a lot of positive. I didn’t play anywhere near my best but got through it. Today I was in my zone, great body language, just played well. I just wanted to remind everyone that I am pretty good.”

The Australian has enjoyed a strong grass-court swing, advancing to consecutive semi-finals in Stuttgart and Halle. Kyrgios, who hit 50 winners against Krajinovic, is now 18-6 on the season.

The 30-year-old Krajinovic entered June having never won a tour-level match on grass. However, he produced some of his best tennis to soar to the final at The Queen’s Club, before he overcame Jiri Lehcka in the first round at SW19.
