Immigration in Brazil is basically regulated by Law 6815/80 and Decree 86715 of 1981.

VISAS

The legislation establishes the following visas to enter the country:

1.- Transit: not mandatory for Spanish citizens. Allows a single entry, maximum stay of 10 days, not extensible.

2.- Tourist: not mandatory for Spanish citizens. The maximum period of validity is 5 years and allows multiple entries into the country, with stays for periods not exceeding 90 days, extendable for the same period, up to a maximum of 180 days per year. The extension is granted by the Federal Police Department

3.- Temporary residence.

4.- Permanent residence.

5.- Courtesy.

6.- Official.

7.- Diplomat.

The last three types of visa are reserved for the staff of embassies, consulates and international organizations.





VISA APPLICATION

The visas will be requested abroad and will be granted by the Diplomatic Missions of Brazil, the Consular Sections and the Vice-Consulates, in this case previous authorization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Likewise, the prior authorization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be necessary for the granting of courtesy, official and diplomatic visas by the Consular Sections, by the Vice Consulates of the Honorary Consulate.

Exceptionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can grant visas in Brazil.

The granting of visas is individual and can be extended to legal dependents.





PERIOD OF USE OF THE VISA

The period of use of the visas is 90 days. An extension of another 90 days can be requested.



IMPEDIMENTS TO OBTAIN THE VISA

Visa will not be granted abroad

Under 18 years if you are not accompanied by your legal representative or if you do not have the express authorization of the latter.

Who is considered harmful to public order or national interests.

Who has been expelled from the country and the expulsion has not been revoked.

The person convicted or prosecuted in another country for an intentional crime subject to extradition in accordance with Brazilian law

Who does not comply with the sanitary requirements established by the Ministry of Health.





VISAS OF TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT RESIDENCE

They allow, respectively, the stay in Brazilian territory for a determined period of time or indefinitely.

Purpose of temporary or permanent visas

These visas are granted for, among others, the following purposes:

Work: See "Work in Brazil."

Cultural trip or study mission: Maximum period of 2 years

Business trip: maximum 90 days

For the student: see "Study in Brazil".

For correspondents of newspapers, magazines, radio, television or foreign news agencies: Maximum period of 4 years.

Religious: Maximum term of 1 year. It can become permanent.

Political asylum: for the period of time determined by the Federal Department of Justice. It can become permanent.

Family reunification

Retired pensioners: you must verify that an amount equal to or greater than 6,000 reais a month is transferred monthly. With this figure, up to 2 dependents are allowed. If the number of dependents is greater than 2, it is required to show a monthly income of 2,000 additional reais for each dependent of the third party.

Investors (individuals) They must make an investment of 150,000 reais and analyze the social interest of the investment (creation of jobs and income, increase in productivity, assimilation of technology, investment in specific sectors). The investment can be less than 150,000 reais in cases of significant social interest of the same.
